The role of the media
In a democracy the media should be free. The state may not decide what newspapers, radio and television say. Journalists should be able to scrutinise people in power. The principle of public access lets you request official documents, unless they are secret. A source may stay anonymous, and a responsible editor carries the legal responsibility. Public-service media, SVT, Swedish Radio and UR, are funded through tax and may not sell advertising. Anyone can publish online, so source criticism matters: who is saying this, and why?
